A’Kira R. Thomas, Esq.

A’Kira R. Thomas, Esq. was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. She graduated from Livingstone College, a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in Salisbury, NC, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

Throughout her time at Livingstone College, she became a member of the Student Government Association, Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and several other organizations. Through her memberships, she was able to interact with the community on a personal level by volunteering throughout the county at food pantries and local high schools and head start programs. After graduating from Livingstone College, A’Kira moved back home to Chesapeake, Virginia to prepare for law school.

A’Kira attended North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law, an HBCU in Durham, NC, with the intention of practicing criminal law. While in law school her interests broadened to include civil rights, juvenile defense, and Constitutional law. While in law school A’Kira became a member of the Civil Rights Society, Black Law Students Association, and the Dime Initiative which is an organization committed to facilitating events and community service efforts that promote fellowship within the Durham community.

Her passion for criminal and juvenile defense blossomed and was nurtured through her internships at a private law firm in Virgina and the NCCU Legal Clinic. One of her many mentors is a Commonwealth’s Attorney in VA, and through this relationship A’Kira was able to gain insight into the prosecutorial side of criminal law. She soon came to the realization that criminal and juvenile defense would be how she could offer help to her community through her career.

A’Kira decided to pursue her interests in criminal and juvenile defense in Charlotte by joining the team at Kimberly Saxton & Associates, PLLC as an Associate Attorney. When she is not working, A’Kira loves to paint, spend time with her friends and family, and explore all the tasty restaurants that Charlotte has to offer!
